Hi, my name is Christina. Welcome to my first blog post. I have been an artist most of my life. I am self taught. I have taken a few watercolor classes but I do not own a degree. I feel like that has given me a lot of freedom to figure out my own style and what I am passionate about.
I live in Colorado with my husband and our children. We love animals and have two orange cats Pretty Boy and Theodore, a dog named Rapunzel, an Iguana named Zeus and a leopard Gecko named Spot. They have all been my painting subjects from time to time.
My official journey in painting began with an old art box. My mother in law gave me an art box full of oil paints. At the time I had one little boy. He was about 2 and very curious. Too curious for oil paints and solvents I had to keep out. My studio was in the garage. I had a problem. That gift had lit a spark of creativity in me that I didn’t want to put aside until the kids were older. However I also didn’t want my kids to get hurt. So I started researching all kinds of different media. I discovered Watercolors. I took an art class with my cousin and I was hooked. There was no You Tube at the time haha. I read lots of art books. I started looking for videos I could watch to learn more. I can say that my favorite artist was Frank Clarke – Simply Painting. The lessons were easy to follow and Mr. Clarke was a great teacher. He made watercolors fun. Those lessons were a foundation for my art journey. Since Mr. Clarke was an important part of my adventure into art, I looked him up….. on You Tube. I found his videos and it brought back great memories. Not every painting then, like now went great. There were lots of disasters. But practice makes perfect or better yet perfect takes practice.
I have been painting with watercolors for 24 years now! The subjects I enjoy painting are landscapes, flowers, gardens, cows, horses, dogs, the ocean, animals from the zoo and really whatever else pops into my head. My art journey is now taking me to blogging for the love of art. I hope you will join me as I navigate this new art form.
Thanks for reading,
Christina
