Last year during the heat of covid, I joined a co-op. It is Sanctuary Inspired Goods. The shop is in old town Colorado Springs, Colorado. This part of town, I feel is where businesses go to struggle. The ongoing pandemic has made it harder. But it seems the strong spirits of humans are not letting the story be written that way. That is thrilling to see. Businesses are beginning to thrive as restrictions are being loosened. The economy seems to be roaring back thanks to the efforts of both administrations to get vaccines out. That is good for artists, it’s good for creatives. We make things, paint art, have ideas to encourage, speak to and beautify others lives. For a long time that was… let’s say.. there was a wet blanket draped over creativity and beauty. That’s being lifted. The SIG shop represents over 30 local artists. There are so many talented men and women who have placed their creative items in the good hands of the owners of this shop. I am one of those artists. My prints, a few originals, newly designed Colorado T-shirts and mugs are there for sale. Because I have items in the shop I feel it’s important to volunteer time helping at the shop. It’s a great experience because most of the time the other artists that volunteer also are super talented and wise. I learn something new every time I work my shift. I am inspired to try new things.I was always uncomfortable with the idea of joining a co-op of artists. I felt uncomfortable about the time commitment. I did not have confidence in my art. I am glad that my husband and friends encouraged me to step out of my comfort zone and join. It’s been a wonderful experience. It has been a great way to meet new people and learn from other artists. If you are an artist reading this, I encourage you to find a co-op in your town and join, volunteer and get your art out there. You never know what one of your paintings, sculptures, pottery etc., means to people. That’s the reason to create, in my opinion- Make to bring meaning. The shop is Sanctuary Inspired Goods in Old Town Colorado Springs, Colorado .http://www.sanctuaryinspiredgoods.com Please check out the wonderful items there.
